Hey, I’m Simone, a 27-year-old PhD student in Computer Science living in Verona, Italy. I spend most of my time somewhere between biology and algorithms, which is pretty much the story of how I ended up here.

I started simo.fasta because I wanted a space that felt like mine, a corner of the internet where I could write without worrying about the noise and boxes of social media. This blog is where I keep the things that matter to me: thoughts, experiences, experiments, and memories that I’d like to hold onto and maybe share with whoever happens to stop by.

I originally studied biotechnology for both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees, but I became increasingly drawn to the computational side of science. That curiosity led me into bioinformatics and eventually to my PhD.

When I’m not working, I like slowing things down a bit. I read, play games, and watch documentaries about almost anything. One of my favorite parts of the day is doing the crossword of the day from AEnigmatica. One of my favorite books is Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg. There’s a quote in it that stuck with me:

“If there is such a thing as complete happiness, it is knowing that you are in the right place.”

To me, that means that even if your path isn’t straight, even if you feel like you didn’t make all the right choices, what’s important is that it brought you here. It’s all part of what makes “here” possible, and what’s important is that “here” makes you happy. That’s how I see life, and that’s what this blog is about in a way: collecting the pieces of where I’ve been and what I’m thinking, and putting them somewhere that feels right.

If you’ve stumbled onto simo.fasta, welcome. I hope you find something here that feels human, something real, written by a person who’s still figuring things out, one post at a time.
